A domino is one of 28 small oblong pieces marked with 0-6 pips on either half and used to play many forms of domino games, also referred to as bones, cards, tiles or spinners. When one domino falls over it can trigger another one in sequence to fall, producing spectacular or subtle results; sometimes these cascading sequences result in dramatic events; other times the effects may be less evident; this term has even been applied more broadly, such as someone accidentally tripping over one domino that then causes others to fall.
Dominoes are widely used for positional games, in which players place dominoes edge to edge so that the dots on both exposed ends match (one touches one end, two touches two, etc). Players then score points by placing dominoes diagonally from one another at right angles – for instance two touching three and four touching five dominoes touching at once). Although each end features different numbers of pips corresponding to its value.
