The Singapore Prize and the NUS History Prize will be launched in 2022 and 2023, respectively

The Singapore Prize recognizes and honours Singapore’s most distinguished citizens, honoring individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their profession, community, or nation. This year’s rebrand and revamp will reflect an increase in innovation and creativity within Singapore’s philanthropic sector; new categories will include translator and comic author awards as well as debut novel awards that give new writers an opportunity to compete against some of Singapore’s premier literary awards.

The winner of the 2023 Singapore Prize will be unveiled during an awards ceremony scheduled to take place in November. Hosted by three-time Emmy Award-winning actor and producer Sterling K Brown, the ceremony will include performances by world renowned artists and performers such as Bastille, OneRepublic, Cate Blanchett, Lana Condor Robert Irwin Bebe Rexha Donnie Yen among many others.

Mr Lee delivered a speech commemorating the launch of the Singapore Prize to mark its launch, in which he expressed pride at having held its inaugural edition here in our vibrant city-state, where excellence is widely accepted and appreciated across industries and sectors. It will honor an individual or organisation which has shown exceptional leadership in shaping Singapore into an internationally acclaimed hub of creativity, technology and innovation.

NUS will unveil its Singapore History Prize in 2022, honoring its long and rich history. Administered by its department of history, this S$50k award was first proposed by Kishore Mahbubani of NUS Asia Research Institute distinguished fellow Kishore Mahbubani’s Straits Times column: “Benedict Anderson once noted that nations are “imagined communities”, with history providing vital ties among them.

As part of its SG50 program to mark Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence, the Singapore Government will sponsor an award. Applicants should submit historical works which help define national identity in Singapore while increasing understanding of our nation’s rich heritage.

Candidates will be evaluated by a panel of five judges appointed by the President of NUS, with criteria and mechanisms determined by them for selecting winners every three years.

Temasek Trust, investment platform GenZero and conservation group United for Wildlife have joined forces to support this award and assist it in its goal of scaling innovative environmental solutions. Organizers hope their resources, networks and expertise can aid the prize in realizing its goal.
